RyanAir Hat Competition

I am very excited that I entered the Ryanair Competition to design a hat to promote their new venture in Leeds Bradford airport. Myself and John Quinnell-Hill have been chosen as finalists. We have to have our hats finished for the Ebor Festival to be judged on the day. I chose to look at Barcelona as my inspiration.

Leeds College of Art Exhibition

Last night was the opening of our final show exhibition. Very exciting and a lot of giddyness between myself and my fellow milliner John Quinell-Hill during the build up. If you are in or around Leeds this week up to Friday 24th June please go to the college building at Blenim Walk. Take a look at all the fabulous differing specialisms. My favourite was obviously Millinery (I'm bias) and then I would definitly say Printed Textiles, the variety of designs and illustrations are beautiful.

On a side note to anyone who loves hats and would love to make them professionally have a look at the Millinery Course. The tutors are fabulous and the college is a brilliant place to study.

Wetherby Ladies Day

Well it was a glorious day at Wetherby Racecourse, fabulous fashion shows and beautiful hats.

I was back stage dressing the models when this was being filmed, otherwise I would of tried to get my Millinery Message across.

Wetherby Races 19th May

Check out my latest designs this Thursday at Wetherby Ladies Day on the 19th of May. My collection will be on display in the Yorkshire Evening Post Ladies Day Marquee. It promises to be a good day lots of fashion including fabulous hats and excitement with horse racing.

The Royal Wedding - That Dress

So I took my opportunity to indulge in some real pomp and pageantry. This is the first big royal wedding of my lifetimes so I was going to make the most of it. My Hubby was at work and joked that he would come home to find me in my wedding dress crying! This obviously didn't happen. I did put on a lovely outfit all of my own creation (I will just slip that in there) including a headpiece obviously.

I was sat on the sofa watching the BBC commentary and I have to say I felt the styling of some of the commentators was pretty bad. Anyhoo it was a little tedious until Celebs started filing the abbey. Obviously the big talking point was VB, her outfit was a beauty. I love the colour, to me it looked like midnight blue very flattering although her poor feet did look unhappy in those shoes. Her hat was a treat for the eyes, although for me I would of liked it on more of an angle. It felt rather severe in the middle of her head. Although saying that it was a theme of the day to have your hat smack bang in the middle of your forehead.

The other talk of the town was Beatrice and Eugenie, bless them. To me it seems that they had tried really hard to be fashion forward, but it just didn't work. So far I have seen no praise for either of their outfits. Must try harder girls.

Well I know I am a little late with this one but my internet did go down over the weekend (probably due to all those bloggers tip-tapping away about K & W). So where to start.....I think we all know how everyone feels about that dress. Simply beautiful, it is truly timeless. Which I have heard complaints from some quarters that when we look back in 20years we won't be able to look back and laugh at how 2011 it was. In my mind its a good thing.

Grace Kelly looking very beautiful, but obviously very different to the Duchess of Cambridge.


I hope that this style of dress will become more popular, every wedding dress I see seems to be of very similar look and design. This brings a breathe of fresh air into the scene.

For me my wedding day was all about creating something unusual and one off for me. I want to offer that to all my customers, having something bespoke doesn't have to cost the earth. Dolly Millinery's Latest

Well hello?! It's been a while I know. But I can say that I have been busy.........This lovely hat has been created using a buckram base with (what used to be a 1960s dress) covering it. And to top it all off a beautiful box. To me it looks like a vintage box of chocs, mmmm dive right in. I have tried my hardest to improve the quality of my pictures. What do you think? You may of also noticed that my swan head has changed. I covered two, this first one with 1950s film star magazine photocopies which looks good, perhaps she needs a tea stain?! My second lady is covered with pattern pieces, but at the time we went to press the poor love was still wet. Let me know what you think.

Lady Gaga on the front cover of American Vogue

OM (double) GG. This is so exciting, once again Gaga has transformed herself. Who is this person in the pink wig and face that's Gaga's but has been hiding away somewhere. She looks like a being from another world........I may actually buy American Vogue for once.
